In a beautiful city, far in the future, ordinary human beings live peacefully together with robots that look and behave like humans. On the mountains that surround the city stands a special temple, golden and glowing, named "The Temple of Unity". This is the story of a boy and a robot girl who are best friends. They spend a lot of time together, and the thing they both like the most is going up the hill at sundown to gaze at the magical, colorful rays coming from the mysterious shrine. The story changes when one day the boy invites his friend to enter the temple with him. Shocked by the idea, the robot girl refuses because the temple is inaccessible to those who are incapable of emotions, and therefore it is forbidden to robots. After this event their friendship cools down. The boy's attempts to show his friend that she already has human feelings are in vain. As time passes, and as the distance between the two friends is felt more and more, we, the readers, and the little robot girl will discover the unpredictable miracles of the magical and transforming power of love...

Somewhere in the distant future the world is a most sophisticated place, resplendent with a rainbow of colors. In this far-off time two kinds of people live on the earth – ordinary ones, and robots that look like people. These robots are very special. They are so advanced that it is impossible to distinguish between them and the ordinary human beings. The only difference is that in the hospitals there are separate departments for ordinary people and for robots that need repair.

This is where our story begins:

In a beautiful city of the future lived a little boy and a little girl. He was an ordinary boy, and she was a robot girl. They went to the same school and did everything together. They studied together, ate together, and played together at recess.

The thing they liked to do best was to climb up to the Observation Point at the top of the city. From there, they looked over at the high mountains and the special temple that stood atop them – a golden temple, magical and glowing, that was called the Temple of Unity.

And so, at the end of each school day, they would walk up together, along the streets and paths of the city, until they reached the soft grass of the lookout from where they would gaze at the changing hues of the sunset and the light of the heavenly Temple of Unity.

One day, the boy said, "I want you to go there with me."
"What do you mean?" the girl was astonished. "You know perfectly well that that's impossible." "Impossible?" asked the boy. "Why?"
"Only human beings can go there, because to enter the Temple of Unity you have to be able to feel, and robots don't have any feelings."

"That's not true," said the boy. "All that you have to do is to want it. If you truly want something that means you can feel…"
He took her small hand in his own. "Don't you feel that you want to be with me?"
"That's not the same thing," she pulled her hand away. "Robots don't feel things like that… because robots don't have any feelings!"
The girl hurried home and the boy remained there, sad and alone.
