When Jose was a child, he would watch the birds up high and dream that the day would come when he too would be able to fly at the top of the sky,
far, far away and high as high, to the freedom beyond the borders of the world, to the infinity of the heavens.
In his youth, Jose went to learn to be an acrobat in the circus. He wanted to swing on a flying trapeze and jump from ring to ring on long ropes suspended in the air. Every day he practiced, because he always dreamed of flying up in the sky.
By the time he was a young man Jose had become an acrobat and he began to perform with the traveling circus.
He would fly on the trapeze high up in the air, almost as high as the roof of the tent.
He appeared all over the country, and everyone knew about the traveling circus and the breathtaking performance of Jose, the flying acrobat.
Jose reached ever greater heights, but he still hadn’t realized his dream,
he still hadn’t touched the sky.
Then one day the rope of the trapeze snapped and Jose fell from the top of the tent. He fell down a long way and broke his back. Now he couldn’t fly anymore.
He could only sit in a chair and watch the birds in the sky, like he did as a young boy.
And yet, even though he couldn’t be an acrobat anymore, Jose did not give up his dream that one day he would fly. He sat patiently in his chair, dreaming and imploring, hoping and wishing. Many years passed in this way.
When Jose was a grown man, the day arrived when his dream came true.
Two angels appeared at sundown and carried him with them so he could fly in the sky as high as high,
to the freedom beyond the borders of the world, to the infinity of the heavens.
And when Jose was an old, wise man many people gathered round to hear his words. He would sit in his chair and reveal what the heavens had whispered to him,
